Green Energy: Industrial Coatings

Industrial Coatings

Surface coating technology plays a significant role in the ongoing maintenance of wind turbines, by protecting it against the damaging weather and environmental conditions it faces throughout its operating lifetime. Failure to maintain an effective coating protection on your assets, may  eventuate in an expensive breakdown for a wind farm operator and could subsequently impose a commercial impact on your power generation targets.

Due to the nature of a wind turbine's continual operation under extreme loads, without maintaining the manufacturers required coating application, the expected lifespan and operating performance of a wind turbine could also be impacted. Rotor blades are highly susceptible to leading edge damage, even the impact of a raindrop can have a damaging effect on an uncoated surface and if left untreated, can lead to severe erosion. Potentially compromising its aerodynamic performance and some studies have proved that leading edge degradation could produce a 500% increase in drag and 20% reduction in overall wind energy generation.
